A new children’s book club has launched this week.

Based on the Wirral, Merseyside and founded by Felicity Johnson, Wild Thing Books is a brand new subscription service for children’s books.

Offering book boxes for 0-2 years, 3-5 years and 6-8 years, plus the new sibling box, school starter box and bereavement box, you can either opt for a monthly subscription of carefully curated books or a one-off box.

With the news that the gap between rich and poor pupils has widened by 46% due to lockdown and school closures*, Wild Thing Books is delighted to support UK Reads. UK Reads, a World Literacy Foundation initiative, aims to eradicate illiteracy by 2040 by offering books and literacy support to children who need it most.

For every box of books sold, Wild Thing Books will donate a book to UK Reads to distribute throughout the UK.

Caroline Burkie, Head of EU and UK at the World Literacy Foundation says.

“At UK Reads, we believe that access to books and literacy support in the early years is fundamental to educational attainment and employability. 1 in 8 of the nation’s most disadvantaged young children don't own a single book and we are here to change that.

We distribute books to these children so that they can discover a love of reading.

Educational inequality has grown sharply in the last 12 months with school closures and lockdown. We are delighted to work with Wild Thing Books to narrow the achievement gap between young people from the poorest communities and their more affluent peers.

We look forward to sharing stories demonstrating the difference your donations have made. Together we can give every child an equal chance to succeed.”

Felicity Johnson, Founder of Wild Thing Books, says “We are thrilled to launch our new service, offering new titles from independent publishers. And absolutely delighted we can support UK Reads at such a critical time. We believe in the power of reading to change lives.”
